Is Anxiety Keeping You From Enjoying Your Life?

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time.  Life can be stressful and situations arise that cause worry such as finances, health, and relationships. However, when anxiety is constant and experienced during everyday activities such as going to the grocery store or talking to people at work, it can be very debilitating. You may feel like you have no control, or hopeless that you will ever be able to relax and enjoy your life again.  Some symptoms of anxiety are:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Sweating
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Excessive ongoing worry
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating

Panic Attacks

Sometimes, anxiety can lead to panic attacks.  A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear where you may think you are having a heart attack or even dying.  It also may include some of the symptoms listed above.  When people have panic attacks, they may not want to leave the house for fear of having a panic attack in public or in front of friends and/or family.  Thus, the fear of the panic attack becomes more debilitating than the attacks themselves, and limits life activities.

Many people that suffer from anxiety also have low-self esteem and do not feel confident, which affects all aspects of their lives.  It is very difficult after all, to meet the world with confidence if you are constantly managing the symptoms of anxiety.

The Good News:

Anxiety is very treatable!  You don’t have to continue to have your life controlled by anxiety.  I employ a variety of proven techniques such as mindfulness, relaxation, and EMDR to help people learn how to accept, confront, and overcome their anxiety.

I feel embarrassed about my anxiety- I can’t talk about it:

It is very common to feel embarrassed about having anxiety.  Many people feel like they should be able to “just get over it” or deal with it on their own.  Unfortunately, this often tends to perpetuate the problem.  The more the anxiety persists, the more you feel inadequate, which in turn causes more anxiety.  Asking for support can be a powerful way to take a positive step towards getting your life back.

I don’t want to take medication.

I don’t want you to either!  In some extreme cases, medication can be helpful, however, most people can learn to overcome their anxiety without the use of medication.  This is a very empowering experience.

What if I don’t see results?

You most likely will.  The majority of my clients begin to feel some relief after only a few sessions.  Talking about the anxiety and turning to face it gives people hope that their lives can be different.
